Native shrub, flowers up to 6 weeks, during mid-summer, while other flowering shrubs aren't, due to heat. Attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies. Naturally found in wet soil, but will tolerate average garden soil. More aggressive spreader in wetter soils. Tolerates drought once established. Common overstory associates include: Cypress, Atlantic White Cedar, Coastal Pine, Redmaple, Magnolias & Beech.
