I know I have the genus and species correct for this cultivar, but the specific cultivar escapes me. It is most likely 'Shrimp' since there are only two or three others out there, and none of the others are a close match except 'Shrimp'. I bought these from Burpees many years ago along with several other perennial types as seeds. I was pleased to see them grow in poor sandy soil where they spread out into mats of fine deep green foliage. Over the years they have spread into the surrounding lawn area where they seem content to grow and spread. I get periods of bloom from May into June and even well into July. I am sure the lawn tractor helps spread the seeds, since I set the blades at about 4" in this sandy part of the lawn, and find them growing as much as ten to fifteen feet apart in certain areas.

Deltoides is an amazingly hardy, drought-resistant plant. Even mowing over it in the lawn does little to discourage its spreading habits in the grass. And as I mentioned in my initial comments, no doubt the mower deck spreads the seeds. It is a great naturalizer.

Here is another patch growing in a somewhat sunny location. I think they add a lot to the grassy areas, especially in sandy soil.
