I have grown this old rugosa rose for at least a dozen years. It is very tolerant of all kinds of weather ranging from -20F in severe winters to 100F with high humidity in hot summers. The name is difficult to pronounce correctly, but no matter it is worth its minimal upkeep. It is quite lovely, but difficult to photograph because of Japanese Beetles in summer, and an assortment of other bugs later on.

I have waited all summer to get a half-way decent picture of this rose. In July & August the Japanese Beetles were so bad, even the pesticides didn't seem to phase them. By the time I could get the camera into the garden the blooms were severely damaged. Today (September 16) I found a bud open and was finally able to get a few shots. But even now I notice a bug of some kind among the stamens in the pictures. However, it seemed to be feeding on the nectar and NOT the flower itself.

This second picture is somewhat better, but there was strong sunlight on the right and shade on the left making it difficult to get a 'balanced' color.
