Initial Notes:

Although this species is classified a a noxious weed throughout the U. S., the blooms are quite attractive in their own right. On a recent field trek I was surprised to see the large numbers of these plants, some as high as six feet. In almost every case they were accompanied by butterflies, bees and other insects.
