This seems to be a native sunflower found from Canada southward into Florida and westward to Texas and North Dakota. It grows here in Indiana in various places such as roadsides, ditches, clearings, meadows, thickets and around the edges of wooded areas. It is a very bright and grows tall up to 7'. It is attractive and the bees seem to like it. Blooms begin to show in mid-August and continue through September.
