This aster has several synonyms including: puniceus, calderi, conduplicatus, firmus and forwoodii. It is not difficult to see how the average gardener or naturalist might become confused with an abundance of synonyms, names etc. I prefer simply "wild purple aster"! It's less confusing:-)
