Initial Notes:

Show up each year in Feb/Mar, leave Oct or so.
about 3 years ago one raised a family in the pear tree. "Swarm" of babies could be seen coming and going between pear tree and nearby feeder.
Have been seen eating from:
roses, morning glory, crabapple tree, dutch iris, pentemon, crimson clover (need to replant this), butterfly bush
seen hovering in air over front yard climbing rose, eating flying insect of some sort, hopefully mosquitos.
will fly around my face if they see me outside and I have failed to put out the feeder (during recovery from knee surger had difficulty getting feeders out).
fly past my head like little helicopters or giant bees, land on lower branches of nearby trees and "look" at me.
one year (same time as cardinal nesting), one was enjoying mid day sprinkler run, but appeared not to understand pattern of sprinkler. when he tired of flying through spray mist, he sat on branch in tiny 10ft crabapple only to be pummelled hard by forceful stream of water as sprinkler came around and blasted him. I stood in horror as he almost fell from the branch. Then noticed that he was in apparent distress after stream passed him. Due to soaking he could not fly. He tried and had to ditch on ground. I went to try to help him but he managed to get away. Hope he was ok.
