Initial Notes:

I started scrapbooking in 2000, I think. My best friend got me hooked and we enjoy just scrapping and yakking. I don't use the Creative Memories stuff (too pricey!), but rather archive-safe, Avery 8.5x11" sheet protectors. I think I paid $3.88 for 100 of them at Wal-Mart. My album is a nice padded vinyl, 3-ring photo binder with big D-rings; I got it at Michael's with a 40% off coupon, so it was under $10.

Can't say I'm always frugal on supplies, though I try to get things when they're on sale or with a Michael's coupon, or I trade with friends. But...I can't help but buy stickers and pretty papers! I love the Susan Branch ones, especially. You can always use fabric scraps in your books, because they're acid-free, too.

Hope you enjoy these. The whole point of scrapbooking is sharing your memories with family and friends, right? :)

This is my best friend Amy and me, making fools of ourselves at the school playground. She and her family had spent the night at our house new year's eve, and we took their son Noah to the playground the next day.

Howie and I love being Noah's crazy aunt and uncle. Our friends John and Amy adopted Noah as a newborn in February 2000 -- I can't believe how time flies.

These pictures put me in mind of a bartender, thus Noah's Bistro was created. He looks like a little barkeep cleaning a glass, doesn't he? This lettering style is so easy to do; you just make block letters, then put a dot at each connection and end.

One night in January, we visited with our friend Angie in Columbus (Pangie here at DG - but she was our friend first, LOL). We watched Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and had fun making it sort of a Mystery Science Theater event. ;) We also passed around this piece of paper and the gel pens I'd just bought with a gift certificate. Wheeee, what fun.

Howie drew the bass fish and Angie did the mask-looking abstract thing on the left. I did the rest of the drawings. It was kinda fun. :)

This picture was taken at our house in early December 2000 during our annual Holiday Kick-Off feast with John and Amy. It was extra-special because Noah was there, too. :)

I found Noah this Peek-A-Boo Big Bird on eBay and couldn't wait to give it to him. When you cover the bird's eyes and then uncover them, he says "Peek-A-Boo!" in Big Bird's voice. The funny thing is, Noah's dark skin color messed it up: When he pointed it at his face, then tilted it back toward the white ceiling, it made Big Bird talk. We got a kick out of that!

The background paper is just pine boughs; I added the ornaments and drew on the hangers. The text is hard to read. It says

These pictures were taken the evening of our Holiday Feast 2000 with the Bowyers. Howard and I bought Noah a "Peek-A-Boo" Big Bird, but he seemed more interested in the bows and paper! He warmed up to his new friend. This is Aunt Kimberley and Noah.

This is the first page I ever made. I took all my scrapbook supplies with us when we went away to a cabin for the night with my MIL. It was nice - we had a fire going and the man who owned the cabin brought me a folding table from the next room so I'd have a place to work. The first few pages took me hours to do because I wanted them perfect...And I did a lot of cutting. I usually don't do them with this much detail anymore!

This is the second page I did, still at the cabin. Hattie looked so little back then! The "Squirrel!" reference is to Sarah's stuffed toy, which is now extinct, replaced by a series of short-lived squeaky toys.

Before you ask...No, I don't know who this lovely lady was. I bought this photograph at an antique store years ago because I thought the wedding dress was so unusual and it was such a neat picture. It sat for years in my photo collection, unseen, until I decided to just go ahead and put it in my scrapbook. I'm still working on a caption for it. I guess it'll pretty much say what I said here! :)

We had a fun time at the Home & Garden show in 2000. It's incredible how they can transform the huge multi-purpose building into a series of parks and paths. I wish I had good pictures of the exhibits themselves, because some were unbelievable.

The mime you see in the upper right is Mark Abatti. When I saw him performing, I first thought he was a statue - but then he moved! When I saw his profile, it was obviously our old acquaintance (he has a unique nose). We said hello, but he kept in character, only glancing my way and slowly wiggling his eyebrows to indicate he recognized us.

I have other pictures of him interacting with other visitors, and I'm going to make more pages from the event.

Paul James spoke and did a question/answer session afterwards. He's so down-to-earth (no pun intended) and funny! I asked a question about something and he remembered my saying I worked at Jackson & Perkins and gave a plug for their roses and teased me.

For some reason, it's rare we get a really good rainbow here. I was delighted to see this one arch right over our house! Too bad the pictures didn't come out better - it really showed up well in real life, and the atmosphere had this strange golden quality - just breathtaking.

Here's our pond right after the storm rolled through. Between the fresh rain smell, the nicotiana, and the other flowers, everything smelled wonderful. Too bad you can't make a scratch-n-sniff sticker for scrapbooks!

This is the first page I did using vellum paper. It's kinda funny...We call Sarah "Sarah-bellum", and here's Sarah-Vellum. ;o)
