Entries and Updates

  Feb 25, 2007
Cropping: 22 Days
Ideal For: Children
Description
Bright red skin and crisp, sweet and succulent mildly flavoured white flesh. Early, very fast maturing, and very slow to go woody.

Sowing Instructions
Radishes grow well in most soils, but prefer rich, moist free draining soils. Sow at regular intervals from early spring to early summer into well cultivated soil. Sow very thinly 1cm (½in) deep in drills 15cm (6in) apart.

Growing Instructions
Thin out seedlings to 3-5cm (1 to 2in) apart.

Aftercare Instructions
Water during dry spells. Harvest as soon as the roots reach reasonable size, if left too long they will become hot and woody.

growing nicely- need to thin and harvest May 20th
easy so far, last to be planted, first to show- will sow some of the other varieties in the between spaces, and perhaps even in the annual area....but there is such a thing as too many radishes

ok, what is this, 24 day?....well that's pretty accurate- some are ready, and my are they the sweetest most wonderful things that have passed my lips in a long time- it's amazing- like the daffodil in Feb
and some are not ready- here are the two I picked right next to each other- both had plenty of room (unlike the rest) since they were at the edge....dunno...did one sprout quicker?

I had to laugh rereading this- the ones in the picture on the website reminded me of babies on tv- being pulled out of the mom all clean and cooing...while mine are the reality- roots dangling, grimy :D

close up of mature leaves- some of them (the radish bulb parts) are just sitting on the ground- did I not plant them deep enough?

oh god, radishes give me the worst burps- maybe I won't plant more- must have had at least 30- perhaps if I hadn'tve gorged myself it wouldn't have been so bad

yeah! it's raining finally- brought more radishes in today...I will not be planting them again....ever- hope my peas and tomatos are this much of a cornucopia

for as much as I've slandered these guys....I just fixed one of my ready made Udon bowls, and put some onion leaves and fresh radishes in it and wow was it good...these are a garnish, and a damn good one when used for the purpose they were developed for- may grow more, dunno, have to eat all these first....udon bowls galore, that would not be all bad, and give a use for the onions too
wonder how they'd be in ramen? i've got enough ramen to feed an army
