Years ago I had planted some of these little plants as corms (or rhizomes). They bloomed a couple of years and then disappeared. I reasoned they just were not hardy here; especially in our often bitter winters where temperatures can fall to minus 20F. A few years later I found a few scattered about in flower beds and even in the lawn. I can only think they were self planted by birds, wind or some other natural means. Two days ago I found another one blooming in the lawn.

There was only one open bloom so I did my best to get this close up picture which does not do justice to such a beautiful little flower.
