SDB (Standard Dwarf Bearded) irises are becoming more of a personal favorite among all the iris classes. They are naturally smaller, more robust growers and seem to withstand severe cold weather conditions better than the TB's. The ones I am listing in this category are totally new for me in 2007, and indeed some such as Big Blue Eyes is a new introduction from 2006 by Paul Black. If I list each year's acquisitions by the year, then I can remember more of its history and when I acquired it.

Apr 10, 2007
This is a shot of Big Blue Eyes from April 9, 2007 during one of the coldest periods in April I can remember in my lifetime. This will help document for me how these irises withstood record breaking cold temperatures over the past 7 days! The high temperature for today was 41F, following 32F overnight low.

This is the opening bud on May 3, 2007. It has surpassed my expectations, and is truly a gorgeous iris.
