This is the scene from my window this morning after another cold, snowy night. I couldn't help feel sympathy for the robins searching for earthworms. The night temperatures continue to fall well below freezing each night since April 4th. This morning was a little better because the temperature climbed into the upper 30's, and the snow had melted by late afternoon. The whole iris garden will need re-trimming and checked for rot after the weather settles down. Some seem to be more seriously damaged than others, while the SDB's & MDB's seemingly escaped with little harm.

In this picture a robin seems to ask, "Isn't this supposed to be spring?"

This picture was from another iris garden where snow had drifted around the plants. I'm hoping this offered a little insulation from the cold.

I saved this radar image from weather.com to mark the day. I am located just west of the "F" in Fort Wayne. It is apparent I was on the mild side of this storm system. Photo courtesy The Weather Channel @ weather.com.

For my personal record this historic old iris 'Sable Night' was introduced in 1952. I had long wanted to add this one to my collection, and finally did so last July 2006. As a single rhizome it grew beautifully after planting, and wintered real well. However, the record cold temperatures this past week seem to have damaged it far more than the cv's surrounding it. I had hoped for at least one bloom stem, but that looks very improbable now. A picture is posted for future reference.
