This is the first year I've paid much attention to this plant. I have grown some of the perennial types such as 'ambigua' (primrose yellow) and have allowed them to grow where the seeds sprouted. However in recent years they have begun to die out, so I added this one last year. It grew beautifully until this April when the severe freezes practically destroyed it. Even now it continues to grow and bloom in spite of the poor weather conditions- more recently the drought! I intend to collect seeds from it in the late summer and try to propagate new plants next spring.

I knew this picture would be faded out because of the late afternoon sun. But I decided to keep it in my journal just for the record. It has been extremely dry this spring, and I feel this has caused it to grow very short.

When I bought this plant at the nursery last year I was hoping for a pink, rose or purple color. I was surprised to get a white! This picture is a little closer up and shows the fully opened flowers as white, while the developing buds are primrose yellow.

This one is very close up and shows the tubular flower detail with "warts & all". I don't know frankly what the markings are inside the flowers, but I suspect insect damage, since there are no spots or blotches.
