Initial Notes:

This is a standard old-fashioned hosta variety. Leaves are mid-green, flowers funnel shaped, purple-violet in late summer to early fall. Grows to about 14 to 20 inches in diameter, 12 inches tall, flowers well above clump. Is reportedly the first hosta brought to the US, sent over by von Siebold in 1829. Excellent groundcover and edger. Scape has purplish dots on the lower third. Sun and drought tolerant. Considered pod sterile. Often mistaken for H. cathayana. The two are similar, but H. cathayana is fertile.
