These are the first pictures I took of our house. We hadn't even finalized the offer process yet, but I kept sneaking in and getting pictures of the yard. I can't believe how plain everything was; looking at these pictures really makes me appreciate the work we've put into the yard. I'm really pleased with things so far!

Front of our house, April 1999. The Welch's sign still hung on the steps in front. All that was out front along the fenceline was daffodils and a bunch of overgrown larkspur and weeds, which we just kept mowing until we put in the fenceline border.
The bed beneath the front porch, what we call the wall bed, was full of euphorbia (spurge), a wicked barberry bush, and some roses which were way past their prime and growing from their rootstock. The azaleas by the lamppost were trimmed into neat little balls.
The bed to the right of the driveway was, and still is, full of euphorbia and hardy ivy. There are also several peony bushes and a clump of pale lavender iris.
The ivy on the front of the house has grown quite a bit since 1999, I see.

Back of house in April 1999. Nothing, nada, zip. Aside from some bluebells, ajuga, violets and weeds (oh, the weeds!), there wasn't much right behind the house. This picture was taken before all the weeds started coming up. We were careful to let things grow before digging them out - we had no idea what all she had in this yard!
We took out the first 10' or so of the fir trees' branches (barely visible on the right). The sycamore stump on the right side is now covered by a flower bed. And the area to the left of the back door, all the way over to the side of the house, is a now landscaped fwith a small pond and various plants.
