Initial Notes:

purchased from J L Hudson, seedsman
Gaillardia is a native North-American plant whose flowers are usually red with a fringe of yellow. This cultivar is all burgundy – and I much prefer it to the regular Gaillardia. Growing to 2’ with narrow leaves, it produces 3-4” wine-red daisy-type flowers on 2’ stalks from June – September. They’re also no-maintenance and drought-tolerant, which may explain why Robinson (late 19th C) praised them for their “long duration, both on plant and in a cut state.” J. L. Hudson Sun; Z 3-10
