For my records, and FYI to interested readers, All 2006 SDB seedlings have been given away, composted or donated to interested gardeners EXCEPT; 2006-O, 2006-U & 2006-V. Only these three remain, and depending on performance, these might well be gone this year. The highest rated SDB in the remaining group is 2006-V which will most likely stay.
I want to be brutally frank with my thoughts: Some of the SDB seedlings I've grown are (IMO) far superior to some I've seen being offered on some websites & catalogs. With that said, they still don't match MY requirements to even think about keeping them, let alone filling out a registration form! I might never get a seedling worthy of registry, but at least I'll help keep disappointments to a bare minimum!
I want to clarify my thinking about irises which I consider to be inferior. Here in Indiana an iris must perform under the most severe weather conditions. Example: Yesterday (April 25, 2008) our temperatures topped out in the low 80's, fell to 45 this morning, and are expected to be 30 by Monday morning (April 28th)! Also, our winter weather can also range from sub-zero bitter one day to balmy 50's the next. Modern TB's just do not cope well here without a LOT of "babying". In the PNW they seem to have all the favorable soils and conditions for churning out a lot of new introductions. But, here as in similar geographic areas they just do not perform well! Give me something that can shrug off the weather extremes, and I'll buy it!
These are only MY thoughts entered here in my personal journal. Some of the things I write can be a source of disagreement. However, each gardener is the master of his/her domain, and consequently are entitled to their own points of view.

This is my SDB Seedling 2006-R. It was a ray of hope in my hybridizing hobby, but quite honestly it did not measure up in all the areas that I had hoped for. As of today, May 7, 2008 it has found a new home.

Here is another ray of hope in my ongoing efforts at hobbyist hybridizing. It is #08-3.
