Yellow knapweed - Centaurea macrocephala
© Dr Chris Gibson/English NatureThis is a perennial cornflower. It is a robust plant, with large flowerheads. These have globular blooms of striking yellow that appear protected by silvery-brown papery bracts. It has narrow, oval and deeply dissected leaves.

This species is originally from Armenia but like native members of the knapweed family, is much visited by bees and other insects.
