After all these many years of growing this daylily, I knew little if anything about its origin. Having checked the Plantfiles I found from an entry that it was hybridized by Linn in 1762. The entry I read from states this was one of the very first daylilies to be registered according to the American Hemerocallis Society website.
I have some fond memories of seeing this in many yards as a child, but never paid much attention to its history. It certainly deserves a place in any gardener's yard, especially those of us who are nostalgia buffs.
