The contractor began April 29 and completed the job on June 18, I think. It was a long haul, but it's done and it's really nice!

Heeeeeeeeere's Nancy!
Jul 3, 2003
The bathroom vanity counter was cut to fit the corner. We can add some shelves on the sides if she needs them.

The commode cubbyhole.

Ironically, Nancy's had this plaque for years, but it matches her new shower curtain like it was meant to be there.

Now, looking out through the bathroom door into the hallway. The louvered doors on the right are to the closet containing the furnace, water heater, and access to the shower plumbing. On the left is the basement stairs leading up to our kitchen.

Continuing on in the hallway, here is a view from the basement steps toward Nancy's bedroom (right) and closet (straight) doors.

No skeletons in this closet...There's no room! She's stored things very efficiently.
Jul 4, 2003
Another view of the closet. The sump pump is in the far right corner beneath the window. John built a box over it so things can be stored above it, while still allowing us easy access for testing and maintenance.

Walking into the bedroom, you see that tall computer cabinet just to your left as you walk in. This is taken from roughly the middle of the room. The doorway to the right of the cabinet leads to the front room (livingroom/kitchenette).
Jul 5, 2003
Going clockwise from there, you see the dresser to the right of the livingroom/kitchenette doorway. Nancy found the prettiest quilt and pillow shams at Wal-Mart; they match the carpet beautifully.

Moving on...The futon and one of her bookshelves. You can see part of the fireplace, too.
Jul 5, 2003
The fireplace. It will work, but the draft is not good and she'd end up with a smokey apartment (and we'd have a smokey house). Eventually, we'd like to convert it to gas and just let it vent out the existing chimney vent. That's quite pricey, though, so it will wait!

Movin' on to the right again, this is her entertainment center. The bedroom door is just past it on the right. You've now made a full circle in that room.
Jul 5, 2003
Ok, now you've walked through the doorway into the front room and glanced to your left. Here you see her sink, cup rack, cabinets, etc. Thirsty? Grab some water!
Jul 5, 2003
Looking on down to the right, the rest of the counter, cabinets, plus the microwave and fridge. The fridge has the freezer on the bottom -- nice design!
Jul 5, 2003
Continuing to your right, you see The Chair. This is the main activity hub for Nancy and Jonah (her dachshund)!
Jul 5, 2003
Just past the endtable is Nancy's beloved bentwood rocking chair. And the little critter on the chair is her beloved Jonah, awaiting her return.
Jul 5, 2003
He got tired of my taking pictures and retreated beneath the rocker!
Jul 5, 2003
Just clockwise from that rocker is the front door, and then her old microwave stand (now used for storage and for the TV) and her kitchenette.
Jul 5, 2003
If you keep looking clockwise around the room, you end up looking right back through the doorway and into the bedroom again.
Jul 5, 2003
The view out her front door, as of yesterday.

By the way, it worked out great for her pantry; the space between the closet and bedroom doors was exactly wide enough for her white bookshelf. We could not have planned it better if we'd tried!

One last view of the hallway, showing the steps and the closet doors to the furnace and water heater.
