Initial Notes:

Ordered from Forest farm for spring 2012. Supposed to be evergreen and shade tolerant Selected for its extra large, leather, dark green leaves. Grows 8-10' high and wide and reportedly tolerates heavy shade. Flowers are a massive 6-8" inforescence and creamy-white in May followed by red fruit changing to black. Defining characteristics include rusty-red pubescence on emerging shoots, petioles and flower stocks. Can potentially rebloom in October if the season allows. A Darthuizer Boomkwekerijen introduction. Zone 4 Height: 8-10 Feet Spread: 8-10 Feet Growth Rate in the Garden •Moderate

Common name Lantanaphyllum Viburnum, A hybrid between V. rhytidophyllum an V. lantana, 1925 the Netherlands. Large, somewhat oafy. Leaves favor V rhytidopyllum, ranging from 4-8 inches long, 2-4 inches wide, finely toothed, rugose and leathery, drk green above, gray pubescent below, with approx. 1" long petiole. Many times the hybrid is confused with V. rhytidophyllum but the leaf of the former is wider. The hybrid is compeltely deciduous in the North, with variable leaf retention in Zone 7 (8). Flowers, unpleasantly se=cented 3-4 inch wide flat topped cymes, with with yellow stamens, open in mid april in Athens, followed by red changing to black 1/3 inch long oval fruits in late August-Sept. Beautiful with red and black mixed in the ripening infructuescences. needs suitable pollinator. Culturally tough. Any well drained soil, and sun to partial shade. Use in groupings, masses for screens blended with broadleaf evergreens. 10-15 feet high. Much more cold hardy thean V. rhytidophylly. Zones 4-9.Planted 5-4-12
