Thanks to Petfinders at http://petfinders.org , we learned of Sophia a couple weeks ago. She's a sweet little Italian Greyhound/terrier mix who's been kept in a foster home as part of the Forgotten 4-paws program for three months following being taken from a "hoarder" who had 38 dogs.
Update 11/14/2004: We had to give Sophie back to the foster family because Emma and Sarah attacked her, out of the blue. We know scuffles are normal, but we didn't want to risk Sophie being injured. The good news is the foster family ended up adopting her themselves.

Sophia's Petfinders photo and one of Emma. Big resemblance, isn't it?

It was a tense few minutes while the foster mom and the Forgotten 4-Paws rep were outside discussing the visit. We were so worried they'd have some reason not to let us have Sophie. She sure warmed up to my MIL, and the feeling was mutual.

Look at that face!

Is she a doggie or a bat? This shot makes her look so much like Emmy when she flips like that.

Sophie was not very comfortable walking in front, but she does great in the back yard. Emma played with her a little bit the first time we took them out together.

Emma thought it was great fun to grab Sophie's leash and make her into a pull toy. Unfortunately, Sophie popped her head out of the collar and got loose. She didn't stray far, though, and I retrieved her okay. Whew! They said her little head was narrow and we'd need to get her a harness. No doubt!

Sarah thought Sophie would never pee. But finally, she did.

After all, you've gotta show these young whippersnappers who's boss, ya know.

Howie and Sophie in our kitchen. It was a red-letter day: Sophie came to live with us AND our kitchen cabinets went in! More about that here: http://davesgarden.com/j/viewentry/48723/

We gave Sophie back to her foster family today. Last night, while Howie was dozing in bed and I'd left the room for an instant, both Sarah and Emma attacked her. Howie woke and had to physically restrain them from tearing into her. She just had some bites and bruising, but was severely traumatized. Since none of us had an inkling of problems, it was such a shock and so terrible. There was no way we coud guarantee Sophie's safety with our dogs, so we gave her back to Denise and her husband. Fortunately, they've decided to adopt her themselves. We'd gotten attached to this little doglet in that short time, and felt terrible about what happened. We're glad she's back in a good home with other dogs we all know get along well with her (and are small like her).
