Got this with the planted one in spring 04. Kept in clay pot (probably should've stayed in plastic pot)... gets dried out too much, but healthy now. Only half size of planted fern- guess root-binding, along with dehydration, doesn't sit well with this species. Will (I hope) be planted in new yard soon.

Planted in ground at new house in very corner of front yard against house, where it should have the most protection from sun until grows taller than house (ha!).

Well, been about 5 months since planting and only part of one leaf opened up... what a slug here. In shock, or dying? Looks terrible. Rats.

Finally this tempermental plant is putting out a new leaf... been 6 months this thing has sulked.

8-05 after two only normal leaves it has produced came up

It is difficult to photograph, but looks like the head has split... which might be a cool thing, but it's not making any leaves, or at least any that extend more than a few inches...

Finally some half normal leaves pop out of the head (one of two, now)

one leaf fried a few weeks ago... but more leaves coming up... sort of wimpy leaves, though

Here is another one of a long series of bad photos of this plant... but as things slowly grow up and out of the way, I can see a bit more of what's going on there, and it is still obviously making new fronds.... and they are gradually getting larger (still a LONG way, if ever, from being normal).

Best shot yet of this plant, as other things start to grow above or away from it.

got hit hard by freeze- all leaves died... but new ones are already coming out
