Bulbous perennials found in grasslands from North to South America. They are grown for their erect, funnel-shaped, and crocus-like flowers. The plants flower from late spring to fall or when the foliage emerges from the soil and usually a few days after a rainstorm. They make excellent rock garden plants or do well in the front of sunny borders.
