I was deeply saddened when I read of Mr. McWhirter's death in the AIS Bulletin in 1996. I already had grown his 'Winterscape' and 'Helen Cochran' before his untimely passing. And this iris, Madison County, seemed like a fitting tribute to his work. It is hauntingly beautiful with gorgeous colors. Great growth and blooms habits add to its appeal. Thanks to Mr. A. Feuerstein for registering and introducing this iris in 1997.
