I have grown this beautiful lily for at least 10-12 years. It is a magnificent plant with large 7-8" outward/downward facing blooms. It is the last of the lilies to bloom here beginning around the end of July into August. I have measured stalks as high as 7', and with clusters of 10-15 flowers per stem. Very nice fragrance, and attracts a lot of butterflies.
This particular variety is a cross of the 'wild' speciosum rubrum, and another parent. Over the years this information seems lost and is inconclusive, but it is definitely not the 'wild' species lily which has a separate entry in this category. The native speciosum rubrum is much differently colored and formed. These flowers are much larger, the stems are much taller, and the petals of this one are not reflexed as much as the wild lily, Both are posted in this category for analysis and comparison.

I wish the sun had not been so bright in this picture, but I had to get the butterfly busy sipping nectar.

This is a better close-up view with more flower detail than the previous picture.
