This is the native North American 'Turk's Cap' or 'Turk's Turban' lily which grows wild throughout the eastern third of the U. S., and from Florida northward into Canada. It is quite distinct from the 'Tiger Lily' shown in this journal. Turk's Cap is much smaller in bloom size, has shorter stems (36") and has an entirely different leaf structure. There are no bubils. A very nice wild cultivar I dug from along an old county gravel roadway. It has spread into a large area of a semi-shaded perennial garden.

I rescued these plants from an old gravel roadside many years ago. Beautiful in part shaded gardens.
