Sometimes I walk by a group of plants and don't see the "trees because of the forest". It is interesting to see what lurks within the "forest" of a perennial bed.

The common chick weed is a notorious enemy here in midwestern gardens and farm fields. It is rampant in growth and seed propagation, and quickly invades lawns, gardens, fields and landscape plantings. It appears in spring growing in large, low spreading clumps, flowers, seeds, and then goes dormant in late spring. It reappears in fall with a vengance! A never ending battle with this noxious pest is ALWAYS on-going! Get out the hoes, spades and sprays to do battle!!! Shown here very close up to detail the 1/8th inch white flowers. (The flower size in the photo is roughly twice actual size.)
