Along with the crocus blooms and willow catkins, these entries are a sure prediction that spring is well on its way. This is intended as a record from year to year to show plants breaking ground with green tips or buds. It can also be a record of how well a group of plants endured the passing winter. This is interesting because I recall some years when narcissus were in full bloom by March 15.
Entries and Updates

These are emerging King Alfred narcissus shoots about 1" above the soil line. This area is part of a sheltered rock/alpine garden which always gets a blanket of pine needles over the fall and winter months. I leave them in place as a natural mulch.

This is a follow-up on the above entry to show the progress made in growth since March 11th. Even though it has been colder than normal plant growth continues at a fairly good rate.

I have been following this clump of King Alfred narcissus since March 11. Tomorrow will be April 11, one exact month since the top photo was taken. Here is the photographic update.

With continuing warm weather growth, buds and flowers are speeding up their arrival. A couple of buds finally opened exactly one month after the first entry above.
