White Swamp Milkweed

Flower Color White
Bloom Time Early Summer
Height 3-4'/100cm
Native to Eastern US
Light Sun, Part Shade
Soil Moist, Wet
Propagation Vegetative
Zone 3-9
Family Asclepiadaceae

Description
A marvelous long-blooming, bright white selection of swamp milkweed. Clear white flowers and dark green foliage make the colors of the hundreds of visiting butterflies glisten in the sunlight.
Culture
Swamp milkweed, true to its name, prefers consistently moist soil, but performs admirably in average, well-drained gardens as well. Full sun is best and some shade is tolerated, though blooming time and color may suffer.

Container Cultivation
Grow in a standard mix with good drainage in light shade (30%) or full sun with consistent moisture. Works best in gallons because its beefy roots, but can be grown in quarts.

Additional Information
The plant is used medicinally in the United States for the anodyne properties of its root and its rhizome and root have been employed successfully, like those of A. tuberosa, both in powder and infusion, in cases of asthma and
typhus fever attended with catarrh, producing expectoration and relieving cough and pain. Botanical.com
