This tulip has been in the same spot for at least 10 years; even thinning them out has not stopped them. I installed an outdoor water line through this bed, and removed several bulbs in the process. Ruggedly hardy, they are especially easy for the home gardener. I began with 12 bulbs; gave away at least that many, and still have 12 plants remaining!

This is the bed mentioned in the initial comments. The water line I installed supplies an outdoor faucet nearby, and the soil to the left is still barren. However the remaining bulbs didn't seem to mind.

A view showing the mixed bed where these tulips are planted. There is even a clematis (Jersey Cream) at far right of the camera (not seen) which gets a wrought iron trellis after the tulips turn yellow and die back.
