This seedling began opening this morning before the sun was warm, and I casually walked by. Later in the day I looked again, this time with camera in hand. I've got mixed feelings about it; it looks so "weird" it cannot be pretty! It is a strange combination of colors: pale slate blue falls ringed with a pale yellow band; standards are almost a pale blue white with the same yellow treatment around the edges. Then the story gets more weird; dark blue markings fan out from the yellow haft area on each side of the powder blue beards! (Parentage: Gentle Grace X Chubby Cheeks). Height is a short 9-10" at best. No doubt I will give it every consideration, BUT, WHO would like it?

This overhead view pretty well sums up my written description above. Very poor weather for picture taking today; intense blazing sun, high winds and general disappointment.

Another view from slightly overhead; the darker blue color is inaccurate because of a shadow from a nearby tree. The blue color in sunlight is more accurate.

I tried to get some pictures yesterday in heavy overcast weather with not much luck. This is especially true for white flowers, light pastel colors and some yellows: They must have some light to get a decent picture. And today is very windy with driving rains; that will prevent any photos today. However, I am adding a substandard picture here of this seedling from yesterday, if for no other reason to give an idea of its form and color patterns. I hope to add pictures of all seedlings as time and weather permit. (Added Note: This is a 'shorty' in SDB terms measuring only 8-10" in height. It has fairly decent growth, two bloom stalks and like I said before, a wierd appeal. Increase is good.)
