I have grown and admired this shrub for many years. First I am partial to its landscape appeal, foliage and hardiness here. Secondly, its pendulous hanging clusters of pink trumpets add a well needed splash of color in Mid-May. And thirdly, the hummingbirds and bees are attracted to it as though it had some strong magnetic force! It is very dependable as a landscape speciman.

Another close look.

I have two of these deciduous shrubs on the south lawn area near the house: One adjacent to the patio off the back deck; and another nearby, easily visible from the deck chairs for hummingbird patrol. In addition I added two 'Red Prince' cultivars several years ago as added hummer 'insurance'. Shown here is a close up of the pink 'rosea'.
