Propagation by seed: If sowing seed in October through Feb, sow on compost and cover with a thin layer of compost. After watering, place container outside against a north wall or in a cold freame and leave until spring. In the spring, bring the seed containers into the greenhouse or indoors to a well lit but not sunny windowsill and keep moist. This should trigger germination. If seeds do not germinate, keep them cool and moist all summer. As each seed germinates, transplant immediately.
If sowing in march through Sept – sow in compost and place container in a bag and put in refrigerator for 2 to 3 weeks. After this time, place in cold frame or plunge them up to the rims in a shady part of the garden and cover with glass or plastic. Some seeds may germinate during the spring and summer and these should be transplanted as soon as they are large enough to handle. The remainder of the seeds may lay dormant until next spring.
