Propagation by seed: Best sown as soon as ripe. Can be slow to germinate. Can be sown in late winter in a cold frame. Seeds need stratification. Pre-chill for 3 weeks. Surface sow, needs light. Use peaty media. Germination in 30 to 90 days at 65 to 75F.

Description: Blue-flowered varieties have no scent but white ones have soft clove scent. Most species are short lived and die after 2 to 3 years, but produce seed prolifically and self sow. Will hybridize with others in genus.
