Click for fullsize picture. My outdoor garden railroad -- Peru New York Approximately 1000 feet of track.. Plants are mostly perennials tho we do put in annuals such as geraniums. The front yard of my little house with the big rock landscaping and flowerbeds project. I hauled each of these rocks home in my van over a 2 year period. It eventually took 4 years to finish placing all the rocks and adding perennials. Varied annuals added each year. My secret garden...visible only from the back porch on our corner acre. We planted dogwood, river birch, rough-stemmed asters and swamp sunflowers at the pond's edge to make our fall landscape a second spring. Easily maintained front yard. Landscaped entrance is flanked by Lagerstroemia x fauriei 'Natchez' on both sides. Beds include Liriope muscari 'Variegata', and Camellia sasanqua 'Shishi Gashira'. Bridal Wreath Spiraea offers the pool-side garden an abundant amount of small white flowers followed by attractive foliage during the spring. Yellow Foxtail Lilies with a back drop of Etoile Violet We loved this outdoor container garden among our lunch cafe on the island of Vis, Croatia. The essence of summer.. The path into the garden My place in the sun A sky blue garden urn is nestled in a sea of striking foliage. Its surroundings include a hardy fern, lamium, a variety of hosta cultivars and a nicely contrasting caladium. A group of hosta cultivars, Heuchera 'Looking Glass', and emerging Asiatic lillies surround an etherial Acer palmatum 'Villa Taranto' Japanese maple in early spring. This photo taken in our backyard, on April 2012. Instead of having a lawn, we put in planters for perennials, succulents, & raised beds for vegetables. We added flagstones with grass in between. House with bridge over Maryann Creek The end of June is a wonderful time for this garden. This garden is filled with astilbe, poppies and Japanese irises. This is our north garden previously a driveway. This is the north garden with a narrow focus. When we moved in 2008 there was nothing, except some ferns and a croton in the right side high bed. Everything your eyes can see was planted during this time. The vines growing at left were planted in five holes dug in the six inches thick concrete. To save on water usage, many of my neighbors xeriscaped their yards.
