This is a Giant Centipede from Texas. It was curled up at the base of a Christmas Cactus in July 2012.

And you thought ants were big in your backyard! Try this fellow, the Bulldog Ant, who is native to Australia. This is the largest ant living in Australia. He also packs a punch!
I found this insect hanging out on an ornamental millet leaf last summer. I think it's called a long-horned beetle.

I was taking pictures of my sunflowers and decided to stick the camera under this bloom that was leaning downward. I wanted to try to capture the sunshine coming through the flower. To my surprise I had also snapped the picture of this insect crawling in the middle of the sunflower!

Along came a spider....
These are not caterpillars, but Sawfly larvae. They feed communally on the edges of leaves and when disturbed hold on to the leaf with their front legs and wave their rear ends in the air.

This "paper wasp" seemed to live at the water bowl I keep on my deck in Salem, OR.

This orange belted bumble bee doesn't seem to mind dangling from two florets on this purple allium as it collects the sweet nectar.
In early summer this orange belted bumble bee hovers over a purple allium in attempts to collect it's sweet nectar.
Wumpy the Daring Jumping Spider - This little spider was our pet for the better part of a year. She was a great mother and laid several clutches of eggs and raised hundreds of tiny baby spiders who were released into our garden.
