I got seeds for this in a trade - they called it 'red cockscomb' - it is a celosia, kind of burgandy red, didn't get too tall, from 12-18" or so. The flowers kind of go up then bend down on all of them. The foilage is green with some red on it. Any name for this?
it does look kind of like love lies bleeding, but the tassels don't get nearly as long as what I have seen in pictures . . . the length in the photo is about it. Also, the picture that Poppysue posted on DB of the seeds - they look red or pink, these seeds are pure black and shinny just like celosia .. . So I'm not sure. ..
Onalee, I have to say, I was glad Patti/rose posted -- that I wasn't alone thinking "Amaranthus"...
My l.l.b. never got long or thick, either.
Although this illustration of A.caudatus from Wayne's Word
[HYPERLINK@waynesword.palomar.edu] -- great site! --
looks a little red, he describes them as "shiny black seeds are about the size of a flea ".

Oh yeah, besides thinking, "looks like an amaranth" -- I also thought, "Huh, never noticed that plume (not, cockscomb!) celosia looks so much like an amaranth)!"
I now see they are both Amaranthaceae. File, file, my little brain...

Well, perhaps it is then a l.l.b .. .I looked up pictures of Amaranthus hypochondriacus that I could find and all of those that I saw seem to be upright blooms not drooping like these . . .

The foilage on this plant has a kind of red tint to the green leaves .. - is that consistent with LLB? The pics I see the leaves look pretty much green to me. It does have a red stem, which I see in some of the pictures. Thanks for the clarification on the seeds - they are just like celosia/cockscomb seeds, which, as you pointed out they should be!
