A picture is worth 1000 words. How many times have we heard that? Several times a week I'll be reading a thread here on Dave's and "hear" someone say, "I wish I knew how to get the pictures from my camera to my computer." Or, "As soon as my DH gets home, I'll have him put my photos on my computer." And then the moment is forgotten. Weeks go by, and frustration grows. Recently I gave someone step by step, illustrated instructions about downloading their photos from their camera to their computer. I am hoping that maybe others might benefit from this tutorial so they can share their photos with the rest of us. Everyone wants to see photos! I even have instructions on how to get the photos from your computer to your post. The instructions are really easy if you just follow along.

Downloading Photos from the Camera

This tutorial is assuming you are using a Windows based PC and not a MAC. My camera is a Sony DSC H1. Because you are using a Wizard through Windows, these instructions will work with most cameras.

My SONY camera stays in the closed (retracted lense) mode whenever I am downloading photos. On some cameras, the camera has to be in the VIEW or "lookin' at the picture" mode (where the lens is retracted) for the box to pop up detecting the camera, otherwise nothing happens. All cameras are different, but what you are doing is letting Windows do it's "wizardly" thing without having to use any extra software.

Your camera should have come with a cord that plugs into the computer. In most instances, it's a USB cord. Plug that cord into the computer and then plug it into your camera. Now turn your camera on. A little window should pop up asking you what you want to do. It will look something like this.

Pop up Window

You will want to select the first option,
COPY PICTURES TO A FOLDER ON MY COMPUTER
using the Wizard.
Click OK.

Welcome to the Wizard

This window will appear.

Select NEXT to proceed.

You will see a box that has all of the photos on your camera.
They will have check marks.
If you want to download ALL of the photos, leave them all checked.

Once you have selected the photos,
you can rotate them, if necessary at this time.

Select NEXT to proceed.

Choose Pictures to Copy

Picture Destination

Now you want to tell it where to put them. It asks for a name for this group of pictures. I chose FLOWERS. This automatically makes a folder in your MY PICTURES folder called FLOWERS. You can also choose a different folder, but for now, this is used to simplify things.

Select NEXT to proceed.

You will see the machine copying the images to your harddrive.

When it's finished copying the images, click on NEXT to proceed.

Copying the Pictures to your harddrive

Last step is to select FINISH.

Here is one of the MOST IMPORTANT steps.
TURN THE CAMERA OFF
WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED.
You will drain the batteries if you forget to do this.
Trust me, I have done it more than once!

Uploading Your Photos to Dave's Garden

So now you want to share your photo on Dave's. OK, let's get started.

Type out your message in the text box.
Select BROWSE in the area below the text box.

Typing out the Text

File to Upload

Go to the folder MY PICTURES and
look for your new folder FLOWERS

Choose your photo.

In this case, I will choose Flowers002

Choose your photo

And here is the photo.

Flower002

Now wasn't that easy enough?

You can leave this window open for reference while you try it out for yourself.
