Our invasive Species Photo contest is a fun way to raise awareness about non-native or introduced plants and animals and each year, we are so pleased with the beautiful images that members enter. This year is no different and the photos show that invasives can be some of the most beautiful and interesting creatures.
The images that our members voted as the best in each category are posted below and by clicking on the link; you can view the full-sized image and the runners-up. Dave's Garden is home to gardeners from around the world and we want to keep a global perspective on what is considered invasive. Every plant, animal, bird and bug is native to somewhere and in most instances they behave properly in their own ecosystems. It is only when they are introduced into areas where they may not have natural predators or a climate conducive to keeping them in check is when things go wrong.
Our fun competition between friends is a great way to educate and we hope that it helps raise awareness on invasives. We have some very talented photographers in our community and our photo contests are a great way to spotlight these individuals. We have the County Fair late in the summer and of course, the Annual Photo Contest each autumn with nearly 3,000 entries and the winning images featured on our Dave's Garden Calendar. We'll also have our second annual Dave's Garden Write-off in a couple of weeks for those of you with a literary leaning, so sharpen up those pencils and get ready to submit those stories!
Below are our winners, and please take a minute to click on each one to view the full-sized image and runners-up. Congratulations to all who participated!
