The Grey Pansy is the rarest of the four Pansies found around here Often seen in bright sunlight, gliding over open grassy patches and flowering bushes, the species can be found in localized areas within the natural environment. Where it occurs, usually single specimens are observed. This one was captured by the river on a dry banana leaf. The defects displayed in this picture was not my fault. :-)

The Grey Pansy - Junonia atlites atlites

The butterfly is pale greyish buff above, with pink/black ocelli. The underside is much paler and the markings very faint. The caterpillar is known to feed on Hygrophila. This species is susceptible to seasonal variation in Malaysia, where they occur in wet- and dry-season forms.
