Large Skipper in Suffolk England, July 1971
Taken on 4th July 2007, resting on a Hydrangea leaf. This is a female, the male has a thick black line of scenting scales in the middle of the wing.
It looks more moth-like with a large body and smaller wings than is usual for a butterfly.
Feeding at Verbena bonariensis. My garden in SW France, July 2008
The patterning on the reverse of the wings is quite faint.
Another female, my woodland in SW France, August 2008.
Druridge country park, Northumberland
