Taken on 6th May 2008, Lincoln UK. A female swollen with eggs, approx. 2mm in length. Possibly P. minuscula by mining I have seen, but P. aquilegiae is also recorded as mining on Aquilegia.
The white haltere (under wing balancing mechanism) can be seen on the top male, a 3rd species mining on Aquilegia in the UK Ophiomyia aquilegiana has black halteres.
Close view of males.
Two females at the sides with males, both showing white halteres. Aquilegia vulgaris is a main host plant, most Agromyzidae sp. live on one or another closely related plant. This bud was very small.
