I watched this bird in the hills to the west of Cali, Colombia, feeding on nectar plants. This blue color form is not shown in The Birds of Northern South America, by Robin Restall et al. ( a good book, but not perfect), but was confirmed as juvenile coloration by a local birder.
Note the bill is crossed in this and other flowerpiercers - very interesting.
