The plant is easy from seed, though takes 4 mos. plus to bloom. The blooms are a stunning color, though only open around 4 hours a day. The photo is of calandrinia 'Ruby Tuesday'

A distant relative of portulaca, it has thick, wide, rubbery, low-growing leaves and satiny, bright rose, portulaca-like flowers atop 20" stems. Tends to sprawl. Used for edgings, rock gardens and hanging baskets. Native to North and South America.
Requires no feeding, but appreciates protection from winter wetness.
Soil should be sandy or gritty. Withstands dry conditions.
Plants are short lived and must be replaced frequently.
