This plant is thriving in my cool, coastal shady garden. The foliage really brightens up that area, and the late winter/early spring flowers are just lovely. It reseeds a bit, and spreads by stolons, but it is not at all invasive.

Any cultivar of this species that I tried to grow die after winter. Seem to be more fickle.

Neutral Terry On Aug 18, 2001, Terry from Murfreesboro, TN (Zone 7a) wrote:

Pulmonaria longifolia has leaves up to a foot long, but are recognizable by their speckled leaves. The flower buds are pink with the flowers usually blue. Like other species, P. longifolia will perform best in cool weather.
