This is a large evergreen begonia that has a mounding habit and will grow to be 3 feet tall by 4 feet wide. The hairy leaves are a deep purplish green with a deep maroon reverse. Very striking. It was named after a southern Californian gardener named Gilbert Ramirez and was hybridized by Rudy Zeiesenhenne in 1977.
