I just discovered this tree on the 200 block of west pueblo street in santa barbara- My old notes from thirty years ago suggest that it is a recommended SB street tree for 4-6' long parking strips.

Culturally, it is recommended not only as a street tree, but also in lawns, for shade, as a specimen, and is reportedly resistant to smog conditions.

From Chile, it tolerates any soil conditions, requires average fertilization, and moderate irrigation. However, I do not have any direct hands-on experience with it.

The trees i saw have been pruned in the past apparently and they were not outstanding specimens that catch the eye. Yet, my notes indicate that it has an attractive 'rich brown bark'.
