This orchid is believed to grow only on pandanus. but that is nonsense. I have seen it grow directly on soil, on palms, on raphias, and so on. It is native to Madagascar, but mainly found at Ile Aux Nattes, Ste Marie Island, North East coast of Madagascar.

It's going rare because of its attraction. Every year they take it from the wild to transplant in the hotel garden for 1 or 2 months. Afterwards most of them die, and the next year, they collect others. Once you have taken it from the wild, it is very difficult to grow, and, of course, they take the mature flowering plants, ready to impress tourists !!!
