We have ours planted in a raised bed on the north side of the house. It has medium thorns, small, white, tea-rose flowers in clusters, blooming profusely all season, especially if dead-headed every week or two. Ours is thriving in zone 7 without sprays or feeding with only part of the plant exposed to full sun. As a runner, it puts out strong stems which drape white blooms over the side of the bed, needing to be trimmed periodly to prevent spreading into the lawn. The nursery that sold us our starter plant recommended it as a ground cover, and I can see it trained to cover a fence. Low maintenance, very hardy, and gorgeous--it's one of my favorites.
